A pen fashioned out of sinker cypress and made to look like a bullet on top. This pen also features pewter metal and a deer head on the pen clip. The pen is opened by pulling down the lever like on a rifle. Makes for a great gift and is a quality writing pen.
Made of Sinker Cypress wood:
Throughout the late 1800's and early 1900's,
logging companies used America's
waterways to transport their lumber
to the mills downstream.
The logs were hand cut with axes and
then tied into rafts and floated to the
lumber mills for processing.
A few logs would break loose from the raft or become waterlogged in the sawmill holding ponds.
Eventually they settled to the bottom, where they
were preserved in the silted water and forgotten
for over a hundred years.
These sunken logs have remained at the bottom of
lakes and rivers untouched and perfectly preserved.
An old tree is usually hollow and is known as
pecky, or peggy, cypress in the lumber trade
because of small holes in the wood caused by a fungus.
These old logs are known as "sinkers"
and can be anywhere from 300 to 1200 years old.
This wood is highly coveted.
