“Weathered, but not Beaten”
By artist Stacey Uffman Blanchard
I created the original painting of “Weathered, but not Beaten” out of Love for our beautiful state. I felt the fear as the floodwaters were rising. I saw the pain and suffering of the residents that were affected, and I wiped the tears shed in the aftermath. My passion is painting, and I was driven to illustrate the State, as I saw it. There is so much sadness and uncertainty.
The painting shows the darkness by the live oak tree the makes a veil over the parishes affected by The Great Flood of 2016. The waves of water illustrate the floodwaters as they rose above our homes. The drops of water are the tears shed by hundreds of thousands that lost everything that they have worked so hard for all of their lives. The orange, green and yellow shapes are the parishes that are suffering from the floodwaters. The alligator represents the disturbance to our eco system. As we all know, even our gators lost their homes, and are being relocated in new swamps and bayous. The light shining from behind the trees is the hope and light that will end our suffering and pain.
We are “Louisiana Strong”, “UnBRoken”, and we will rebuild. Most of all we are a “WEATHERED, but not BEATEN.”
All framed items will take up to 2 weeks to ship.
